A Seed Drawing starts with a single simple mark. It is sent to a worker on Amazon Mechanical Turk with one instruction: copy this. The copy goes to the next worker with the same instruction. The copy of the copy goes to the next.

Nobody sees the original. Each person sees only what the person before them made, and each tries faithfully to reproduce it. Small errors, hand tremors, misreadings and interpretations accumulate. After thousands of iterations the mark has drifted somewhere its first maker could not have predicted.

The finished drawings are composites of every generation, layered. What they record is not any individual's hand but the shape of accumulated error, and the distributed labour system that most images now pass through invisibly.
